Czechoslavkian painter and printmaker Tavik Frantisek Simon (1877-1942) was one of the premier printmakers of the last century. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Prague. He moved to Paris during the early 20th century where he gained famed as an accomplished printmaker, exhibiting at the Société de la Gravure en Couleurs, the Société de la Gravure en Noir, the Société des Peintres-Graveurs Français, the Gallery Walker of Liverpool, and the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers of London. He became a Professor of Art at the Academy of Art in Prague in 1928. Simon became known for his city, New York, and landscapes in both color aquatints and color wood engravings.  Simon's work is in major collections worldwide.
