Caroline Lord

(American, 1860-1928)

Caroline A. Lord was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1860 and was the daughter of the president of the Lafayette, Indianapolis and Cincinnati Railroad.  She enrolled in the Cincinnati Academy of Fine Arts where she studied under Lewis C. Lutz and Thomas Noble.  In 1890 she traveled to Paris and studied at the Academie Julian.  While in Paris she worked with Elizabeth Nourse, a fellow Cincinnatian and good friend.  She exhibited at the Paris Salonsand received a bronze medal at the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1893.  She was a well-known painter and teacher.  She taught students at the Art Academy of Cincinnati for 25 years.
